Karr Hersch

Karrer Hersh is the Electrical Engineer within the HydroWIRES portfolio for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Hydropower and Hydrokinetic Office (formerly the Water Power Technologies Office or WPTO). In this role, he is responsible for being a technical advisor and project manager on projects related to the understanding, enabling, and improving of hydropower’s contributions to reliability, resilience, and integration in the rapidly evolving U.S. power system. With an educational background of B.S in Electrical Engineering (Clemson University) and M.S. Energy Systems Engineering (University of Michigan) and experience working for a Utility, he brings insight into how hydropower can be better woven into our energy system thus strengthening the future grid. He is excited about helping research projects on the cutting edge and looks forward to seeing their impact on the grid. Karr grew up in Portsmouth, Virginia but has lived in South Carolina, Michigan, and Louisiana. He is currently working out of the Golden Field office and enjoys his access to the mountains, whether that is skiing, biking, or hiking with his dog.
