Role: Speaker

Charles Scaife is a scientist and research manager in the Hydropower Program at the Department of Energy’s Hydropower and Hydrokinetic Office (formerly the Water Power Technologies Office or WPTO). There he manages scientists and engineers researching how climate change is impacting rivers and streams and what that means for energy produced from hydroelectric facilities. Additionally, Dr. Scaife collaborates broadly across the agency and US government seeking to address energy-water nexus issues faced in communities across the nation including those related to energy and environmental justice. Dr. Scaife found his way to Washington, DC through NOAA’s Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship - a year-long program meant to expose early career scientists to policymaking. Prior to DOE, he conducted climate change research across the mid-Atlantic in partnership with the US Forest Service and earned his PhD in environmental sciences from the University of Virginia. Dr. Scaife has a love for the outdoors and in his free time, you’ll find him trail running, cycling around city, or in the park.
