Lauren Ruedy is the Chief Engineer for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Water Power Technologies Office (WPTO). In this role, she leads the development and execution of the water power testing infrastructure strategy to provide a roadmap for increasing access to marine energy and hydropower testing and validation infrastructure. Lauren joined the Department of Energy in 2017 as a Marine Energy Technology Manager and lead the Reducing Barriers to Testing portfolio, focusing on Testing Infrastructure Access and Development along with Environmental Research and Instrumentation Development, prior to becoming Chief Engineer in October 2024. Before joining the Department of Energy, Lauren worked as a civilian Naval Architect for the U.S Navy for 10 years where she supported surface ship acquisition and in-service programs. Lauren holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the University of Michigan and a Master of Science in Engineering Management from George Washington University.
